From small beginnings ………..
Deakin Lakehouse is a privately owned and operated restaurant and function venue, situated toward the rear of the rural campus at Deakin University, Waurn Ponds.
We started in February 2000, in the building which once housed the renowned Deakin Staff Club (known well in the past for its epic dinners based around hearty reds, and of course for its “bathtub” regattas on the lake)
The rebuilding process
After substantial renovations, including the addition of a dance floor and a second deck, Deakin Lakehouse was established.
Its primary aim was to create a dining venue for all Deakin staff and students where they could enjoy great food and good wines in a setting that took them away from the pressures of University life.
Within 6 months both the Deakin patrons and the general public started to discover Deakin Lakehouse as the fantastic function venue that it is, and many weddings and birthdays later…..we are proud to have helped thousands of guests to celebrate hundreds of fabulous moments.
We open Monday – Friday, 10am – 3pm for coffee and lunch. Evenings and weekends we are available for functions only (when patrons can enjoy exclusive use of the venue.)
Deakin Lakehouse is surrounded by meandering walking and cycling tracks, which start near the Deakin campus entrances and come right by Lakehouse and the Chapel. The paths continue on from Deakin Lakehouse around the chain of lakes following a natural water course nestled in bushland: quite a discovery trail for those not familiar with the campus.
We have fantastic birdlife including water fowl, native ducks, wattle birds, honey eaters, cockatoos and many other species – literally right at our doorstep.
At Lakehouse we welcome everyone in the Geelong and Greater Geelong community to come and join us – perhaps for a quiet coffee……… or for a fabulous party!
